Ella's 3rd Birthday

Our little Ella Bella turned 3 on Thursday! I tried to make her birthday as exciting as I could for her, but without Daddy, friends and family around it was pretty low-key. We were lucky enough though to have my parents in town the week before, so we decided to do most of our celebrating then. Ella got to open up all her presents early and she had grandparents around to help make her feel special. Ella also had some very thoughtful aunts and uncles who remembered her special day even though we are far away and sent a little gift her way. Thank you everyone--Ella loved them all and I think it really helped her feel special as she has been having a hard time in a new place and has been missing friends and family so much.

Here are a few pictures from our celebration. . .

Ella got a shopping cart and bike from us, and some of her own gardening tools from Maggie. I think she was happy with all of her gifts!

She got a princess music player from my presents and this is the dance party that ensued!

Ella asked for "a princess cake with a purple dress" for her birthday cake this year. Last year it was just a "strawberry cake"--a much easier feat. It took me some time brainstorming to figure out how to make her wishes come true, in the end it didn't turn out perfect but I think it did the trick!
