My last week at work, one of the four schools I travel to everyday threw me a baby shower. It was a lot of fun, and I got really spoiled. The whole class I teach went in on a jogging stroller for me that I had registered for (which was really expensive). They said that they thought it was an appropriate gift since I was always trying to teach my kids about staying active and exercising. It was a real surprise and was very sweet. I can't believe how generous they were. . . in addition to the stroller some of the teachers bought me some fun stuff (ie clothes) as well. I really wasn't expecting anything like that, but am grateful for how nice they have always been to me there at work. I thought I would post a picture of me with my students since some of you may be interested in seeing who I have been working with on a daily basis for the past two years. This is just one of my 5 classes that I teach, but I have to admit they are probably one of my favorites--there are a lot of fun personalities in this one. They all made me promise that I would come back and visit next year, so I think I will sometime. The second picture shows my favorite student of them all (the one looking at the camera). Her name is Sade and she is loads of fun! She makes everyone she meets just melt immediately (including Brad. . ..she was able to get him to tickle her arm for about a half-hour straight. . .he won't even do that for me). I will really miss seeing her. Anyway, all in all it was fun to have that shower and I am definitely looking forward to trying out my jogging stroller soon!

Dr. Holbrook is seeing patients. . .
I decided to post a picture of Brad on his first day of seeing patients (earlier this year). I hope it doesn't scare too many of you to see him looking so official! One thing he really loves about Medical School here at EVMS is that they have so many opportunities for patient interaction very early on. We've heard that alot of schools don't have these programs until the 3rd year. . .so Brad feels very lucky that he gets to start this experience in his first year. Brad just seems to love everything about medical school out here and I love seeing him get excited about school (for a change). I know he is going to be such a great doctor and I am excited to see his progression to that point. I know he is just great with the patients he sees. Doesn't he make the cutest doctor you've ever seen?

The Evolution of the Belly
Brad thought I should show off these "fun" pictures of me growing by leaps and bounds in the past few months since most of you have never seen my pregnant self. He thinks they are cute, but does anyone really like any pictures of themselves when they are pregnant? The first one is at 4 months, then 7 months, then 8 months, and 9 months. I think the 4 months one looks pretty good though! In all seriousness, I have really enjoyed being pregnant and think it is kind of fun to have a big belly to show off (just so long as I don't have to see a photo of it all!) It still amazes me the incredible things that are happening inside my body and I am constantly in awe of the fact that I have life inside of me. I am sure that it will seem like even more of a miracle once I can hold that little life! We're crossing our fingers that she will indeed be joining our family within the next 3 weeks now. We'll keep you posted!
The Baby's Room!
Well, I am very excited to say that after a long wait and a lot of work the baby's room is now finished! (Almost anyway, there are always a few finishing touches I hope to complete before she arrives. . .but I've got to wait until pay day!)As I am not a real big pink person (and Brad definitely feels more comfortable without the color around him)we decided to go with some different colors for our decorating. I found this bedding set called Alphabet Soup with tons of fun colors on it. I just fell in love with it. It also appealed to my more practical side as I figured we could use it for a boy or a girl (planning ahead for down the road). We painted the walls in the room a deep red and then used mostly orange and some sage as accent colors. I think it turned out pretty cute. . .hopefully I will still think so in a month or two. Now we just need a little baby to come along and enjoy it!

Harbor Fest 2007
One of our favorite events every year out here is Harbor Fest. It is a fun weekend on the pier in Downtown Norfolk (and it's all free!). A bunch of ships come in from all over the country and even the world and dock in the harbor for everyone to see and tour. Along with it there are always tons of free concerts and fireworks in the evening. This festival is also the place where Brad first fell in love with Deep Fried Twinkies and Deep Fried Snickers Bars (a true delicacy in the South). The festival is generally held the first or second weekend in June--in case any of you want to make vacation plans out here next time around! This year was extra fun because they were honoring the 400th anniversary of Jamestown by having only old-fashioned tall ships in port. Brad really thought these were great. . .maybe they took him back to his youthful days when he dreamed of being a pirate! Argh!

Entrance into the wide world of blogging
Well, I have never been too advanced technologically speaking, but in an effort to stay in better communication with family and friends across great distances Brad and I have decided to start our own family blog! (If anything it will hopefully help us keep eager grandparents updated about their new grandbaby. . .due now in the next 3 weeks or so!) I'll try to keep it as interesting as possible, but make I no promises. Read at your own risk!!
