Why We've Been So Busy

Any of you who I have talked to since our move out here to New Mexico know that moving into our new home didn't all go so smoothly. Without going into too much detail, we had a seller who didn't get out when she was supposed to and we were stuck having to wait even longer to get into our house after the long drive across the country. It was definitely hard on the girls, but it was also hard on us too!

Once we finally got into our house we had the unpleasant surprise of things not being cleaned at all (like in at least the last 5 years) and the overall condition of the house being much worse than we had thought. Structurally, everything was fine, but beyond that we just had a mess to deal with. Filthy carpets and walls, random wires hanging everywhere, an extra door between rooms that we didn't know existed, and so on. Basically, we realized that this home just hadn't been cared for in a long time. Many of these things were cleverly hidden from our sight with strategically placed rugs and large peices of furniture when we saw the house. Of course, it didn't help that we were rushed when we came to see it to begin with because it was our second trip down after the first one fell through! When we got there we had some serious buyer's remorse. But here we were, the house is ours, so we just tried to make the best of it.

Since moving in, we have replaced all the carpeting, put in a hardwood floor, divided a room, leveled the floor of the backroom, painted every wall (just about now), and cleaned, cleaned, cleaned along with the constant unpacking of course. Brad's dad was gracious enough to come back down here again and put in a week of back-breaking work to help us get it all done. We couldn't have done it without him!

We are now starting to see the enormous potential that this house has and do feel like we will be happy here for the next 4 years.

We thought we would share the progress with you. . .

Oh, that makes me so angry for you! I just hate dishonest people. I'm glad that you are feeling more at home now.

It was fun to help with the improvements as long as you remember your next home will be in SLC and I will supervise the improvements rather than wear out my poor body. The paint and carpet look great. I am sure you are glad to have the boxes emptied. I am glad to help and have you 1500 miles closer. Now we need to get Stan closer.
