Tree Hunt

We were finally able to go out and get our Christmas tree yesterday. I usually like to get the tree Thanksgiving weekend, but with Brad working all weekend, that wasn't really an option.

We decided this year we wanted to go out and cut down our own Christmas tree. We have wanted to start this tradition for a while, but with this being the first Christmas we will have in our own home it is also the first Christmas where this was really a possibility.

We drove an hour away to a National Forest, where for a $10 permit you can go and pick whatever Christmas tree you want and bring it home with you. Brad finally had a day off, so we loaded up in the car, packed some snacks and Christmas music and went out on our family adventure.

We were a little nervous as some friends out here had warned us not to expect much of the Christmas trees in New Mexico. We're glad we went anyway, as we found lots of great trees, picked one we all liked, and most importantly, enjoyed some great family time while we were at it. And when the temperature in the mountains is almost 60 degrees in December, it is easy to enjoy yourself out there!

I think we will definitely plan on doing this every year--assuming Brad can always get a day off to go with us. . .

Measuring each tree so we could get one the perfect size. We were deceived many times by ones we thought were perfect, but ended up being way too tall!

Maggie was thrilled about the little patches of snow she kept finding. . . however she had a hard time distinguishing where the snow ends and the mud begins--she couldn't seem to figure out why they didn't taste the same!

We took pictures of many possibilities. . .

Until we found one we could all agree on. . .

A picture to show I came along for the adventure

Making sure it's not too tall :)

My lumberjack husband cutting down our tree (he also hauled it to the car on his own, insisting he didn't need me to help)--what a muscle man!

We will remember next year to tie the tree down backwards on the car, so when we drive home on the freeway, the branches blow into the trunk of the tree and there is not so much drag on the car! Oops!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!

Now you will have to write a book about - "We're going on a tree hunt".
What a great family tradition. Keep it going and you will be surprised 20 years from now how the girls will have wonderful memories of the "Annual Christmas Tree Hunt".

Sounds like so much fun--and 60 degrees is something we haven't felt for at least 6 weeks! Tell Ella that Grandma never realized she could do that trick with her tongue! Mom
